Well, it has been a crazy week for me! My wife had laparoscopic surgery, and we found out she will have to have another surgery. While she was waiting to get discharged from the hospital, I went to three pharmacies to try to get her medicine filled. Naturally, the day before I went to the pharmacy, the government or whoever is in charge changes the rules on how the prescription can be written and also changes the name of the drug – really?! So, after two and half hours of going back and forth to get the correct prescription and after spending the entire day at the hospital, we were finally home. (My wife is doing well) That was Tuesday. Wednesday, I came back to work and turned the computer on. The only problem with that was the computer didn’t turn on. The hard drive crashed! Thankfully, I had backed up our most important data, but all the other forms, lost forever! Yes, hindsight is 20/20 – I will back up my data files regularly now! Actually, I was almost finished writing this devotion, but it was lost in the crash. I guess God wanted me to say something else!
I wish that I could tell you that I didn’t let anything that happened in those two days bother me. I wish I could tell you that my attitude was really good during those two days. However, I can’t. Why? Because I was not concentrating on things above! I was concentrating on Matt and how things affected him. Oops! It is a bit ironic that we are looking at Colossians 3:1 “Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.”
Last week, I asked you at the end of the devotion ‘What are you seeking?’ If we could get into your mind and see what you spent most of your time thinking about, what would we see? On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, I was glad that nobody could see into my mind! However, during the middle of Thursday, God reminded me of Colossians 3:1. Conviction! Repentance! I love the fact that if you don’t understand verse 1, Paul writes verse 2 “Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.” Think about your life right now – are you thinking about things above (the things of Christ) or are you thinking about the things of the earth? (Next time you see me, ask me to show you an illustration that will illustrate this truth so well).
Last week, I told you that this section will begin to tell us how to walk in Christ by faith. How do we start walking in Christ by faith? We seek the things of Christ and not the things of the earth! Simple but profound! I need to remind myself of that many times a day. See you next week!
